Um, No. Sorry I play(ed?) gw's to get away from RL. Not to be bombarded by stupid ad's. That happens enough on TV, Radio and Billboards on my way to work. Sorry, No. I would stop playing completely. Even though it has been about 2 months since I logged for more then 2 mins and I have given my account to a friend. XD

Why would they put ads into a GAME? I get tired of seeing ads on websites, it would make the game even worse if they added ads to it even if they were just on the loading screen. Personally I have no problem with lag, and even when I do, I'd rather deal with it than annoying ads in a game even if it meant more servers and people at ANet. They should be focusing on Guild Wars 2 now anyway.

Yeah, adds would cheapened the whole exp.
promos are a different thing though so I would be in favor of themas long as it wasn't painfully obvious advertising

It's a great idea. Putting them in the loading screen does absolutely nothing to harm the game. Anet would make extra money off this and be able to afford more support for the game making everyone's experience that much greater. There is no negative to this, and there is a positive of a better and more efficient gaming experience.

NOOO! how will my lvl 12 paladin Sir Lancilat vanquish the forces of evil when he's bombarded by the enemy's propaganda!? plus it would lessen immersion into the g
rofl don't worry just kidding, guys.
ads in loading screens are a great idea. if you forget you're in real life while staring at a big screen with the word loading at the bottom (or even in the middle of playing for that matter) ads might do you some good.
also, professional sports have ads so why not competitive online rpgs? if we're lucky it would make everyone feel like a big sports star and create even more drama. perhaps enough drama for... national television. and i will be the first to profit.

Personally, I'm ok with a short blurb on a loading screen SO LONG AS IT IS NOT GIVEN A MINIMUM TIMER, if my comp can load past the ad without losing time, I'm ok with it.
I understand Anet needs renewable money from this (since people are so resilient about buying stuff sometimes in the online store, and it's not like you need it), so loading screens would be ok. NOTHING in game however please.

Update - Thursday, July 2
***Added new quest dialogue for the Nightfall primary quest "Signs and Portents." It now reads:
Melonni: "This looks bad."
<party leader>: "It's just some old inscriptions."
Melonni: "I hate not knowing what they say."
Kormir: "These come from earlier times, from before the Scarab Plague. A scholar could decipher them."
Melonni: "I don't know any scholars that would want to come out here."
Kormir: "You would be surprised."
Melonni: "What's that?"
Kormir: "It's one of the excavation workers."
<party leader>: "Yes, but look at him."
Melonni: "I would like to change my opinion to: "This would be a great time for some Kool-Aid.""
*Kool-Aid guy crashes through ancient inscribed wall*
Kool: "Oh yeaaaahhhhhh!!!"

because that's exactly what OP proposed.
also, if i didn't own guild wars i would buy it just to see that cutscene. and then i would buy some cool, refreshing Kool-Aid. think about it Anet.

If we could purchase an ad blocker from the in-game store, how much would it cost? I'm willing to pay anything under my total life savings -.-
Oh, and btw, I'd just texmod out the ads :P

What makes you guys think that if ANET puts up ads all the profit is going back into GW? Frankly I doubt it.

Wow, the stupidity of people in this thread makes me lulz.
If ads were placed in loading screens to help reduce lag and increase server resources, it would only be a benefit to the game.
I love people that hate and/or are scared of advertisements and believe that they should get everything for free and no one should be allowed to do anything to make money. Please, go to some communist country and the gtfo of good old capitalist USA where we actually have a middle class because we aren't afraid to be profitable.

Wow, what a politically charged post. I won't even begin on "capitalist USA" where taxpayer money keeps failing companies afloat. Instead, I digress.
I honestly wouldn't have a problem with ads in the game as long as they didn't disrupt regular gameplay. For example, the stupid double-underline text ads that are EVERYWHERE on the internet, as subtle as they're intended to be, are the most annoying thing I've ever encountered. I don't want to go to mouse click on Hungry Skale and have "Hungry" pop up a Hot Pockets ad and "Skale" pop up a Weight Watchers ad.
If done properly, they'd be okay. I would say to avoid putting ANY kind of advertisement in instanced areas (and probably towns and outposts as well), leaving pretty much the login screen, store, and loading screens.

I will try not to turn this into a political thread (we can do that elsewhere).
But, I agree with you about the fact that advertisements everywhere would be an annoyance and would degrade the gameplay. However, the OP clearly stated that the whole idea would be based around advertisements being in loading screens only. I can give up that little bit of my already wasted time in favor of a huge return on playability and less lag. So, assuming that we are going on the premise that the ads would only be on loading screens, its a great idea...
If you want to debate the capitalism issue, pm me, I will be happy to have a serious debate without a bunch of flaming and name calling.

Honestly I wouldn't mind if it was just on the loading screens, if they fixed the servers...
However... I'd rather anet allow private servers to which gw servers would have a parent-child connection to keep the private servers up to date and stop it from getting modified. Perhaps have it so in order to log in you'd have to start on anet gw servers and then change the server to the private ones. Just an idea.

Yes, we are. We paid for each campaign, which provides revenue to keep the game servers running, and we pay for the extra storage, character slots, pvp unlock packs, renames, makeovers, etc, etc. Have you even bothered to read Anet's business model for Guild Wars?
And a plant is someone who works for a company that uses online forums to promote products and provide leverage for business ideas. They build a rapport with an online community and use it as a way to promote the interests of their employer. And your original post is exactly what a post from a plant sounds like. I have never heard anyone speak so positively about selling out a game they love to corporations to use as a platform for advertising, until I read this thread.

As much as I bloody hate ads, if ANET would need to put them in for whatever reason (e.g., fix the servers), I think I'd be a little willing to have them on the loading screen. Maybe even on the login-screen, like, in the announcements box. You'd see, "Password security. Double XP weekend. Get a free Cherry Coke at Coca-Cola.com."
But I guess it would depend on what kinds of ads were on screen. If I have to listen to "Zap the Mosquito" flash (an infamously annoying ad) while I load up, THAT would get annoying REAL fast. Or if it was one of those video ads that take ages to load, or ads that talk to you all of a sudden, like those stupid smiley face ads screaming "HELLOOOOO?!?!" or "Congratulations. You have just won a free. Apple. iPod." ads, I would retake back everything I'd say about perhaps being able to tolerate them. This goes double for the forced-ads that make you countdown before you can go onto the next page.
But I don't mind regular links (but not those double-underlined hot links, like someone mentioned previously), or just plain ol' banner ads. Heck, I can even take the animated GIF ads like the Classmates.com one or the house mortgage ones with the badly dancing people (I think those are hilarious). So I guess it would really come down to what kind of ads they place. And as long as it's on the loading and/or login screen. When it starts creeping in game, that gets bad.
